A community project to renew the urban fabric of Al-Rukbiya Street in Historic Cairo.
Madinet Masr announced the Buyut Al Khalifa project with Built Environment Collective under the patronage of the Supreme Council of Antiquities as part of its sustainability and community programme.
The project covers 3,000 square metres on Al-Rukbiya Street in Historic Cairo. Its scope includes restoring two historic buildings, renewing 19 façades and upgrading 1,200 square metres of public space with paving, planting and lighting.
The programme also includes two urban farms, support for heritage crafts, and educational and vocational opportunities. It forms part of Athar Lina, an initiative active in Al Khalifa since 2012.
The announced implementation period begins in May 2025 and runs for three years, combining heritage conservation with urban, social and environmental development.
